List the News

Keep Up with the News

In the previous 20 minute task, you learned why you should keep up with the news about your keywords. It's a great source of topics for your web site.

By adding content, such as articles, podcasts and videos, as soon as such news breaks, you'll take advantage of a surge in search engine traffic about the news topic. It will bring extra users to your site. It will also help regular visitors to have more confidence in you.

Your 20 Minute Task

By now, you should have received at least a few Google Alerts about your keywords. Pull out the sheet of paper or open the spreadsheet file you started in the previous 20 minute task where you listed article topics you gathered from magazines and competitors' web sites.

Comb through the Google Alert email messages you received so far and look for topics you haven't listed earlier. Add them to the list. If anything seems particularly urgent, put a star by it or boldface it so you'll find it easily.

When you're done, file your list in the "Making Money" folder.

A New Point in Your Business

P.S. Now you've reached a new point in your web business. You'll have to start doing a few things on a routine basis--every day or every week or every month. That's part of doing business because customers expect you to be reliable and available.

In this case, you're going to have to check your Google Alerts every day and list new topics, especially newsy ones, so you can add content to your site. You might think of it as a separate 20 minute task that you do each day before you continue the 20 minute tasks here at 20MinuteWebBusiness.com.

If you're a person who enjoys having a daily routine, you'll love this. If you're a person who can't stand routine, try to hang in there until there's enough routine work that you can delegate it.
